If You Cancel: Cancellation is self-serve from account settings. You keep access through the end of your current billing period. All your conversations, Projects, and Custom GPTs remain in your account history. No data is lost on cancellation.

For a solo founder or small business currently using Google to research and a blank document to draft, ChatGPT replaces a meaningful chunk of both: the research session, the drafting session, and the reformatting session that follows.
If you are paying for a separate AI writing tool (Jasper, Copy.ai, or similar) at $49/month or more, ChatGPT Plus at $20/month covers most of the same writing use cases with better general reasoning and a more flexible interface. The specialized tools may still win for templated marketing workflows, but for general business writing, ChatGPT is the more versatile option at lower cost.

On the free and Go plans, conversations may be used to train models unless you opt out in Settings under Data Controls. On the Plus plan, you can opt out. On the Business and Enterprise plans, your data is not used to train models by default. If you are sharing client information or confidential business data, review the Data Controls settings before your first paid conversation and opt out if needed.
Projects are personal workspaces that keep conversations, files, and instructions together for a specific topic. They accumulate context over time and work best for ongoing work, like a client account or a recurring report. Custom GPTs are persistent AI configurations with a specific persona, instructions, and optional tools, designed to be used repeatedly for a defined type of task. A freelance writer might use a Project for client A and a Custom GPT that always writes in their voice regardless of which client they are working on. Both are available on different tiers; Custom GPTs require Plus and above.
Business adds three things individual Plus accounts do not have: a shared workspace where the whole team works under one admin, no model training on your data by default (enforced at the workspace level rather than per-user opt-out), and compliance certifications that matter if you handle client data under GDPR or CCPA. The admin controls and data guarantees make Business the right choice for any team sharing client information in ChatGPT.
